Container movement in Mexican ports grows 2.2% in the

The General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine (CGPMM)reported a 2.2% growth in the movement of containers in Mexicanports, during the first two months of 2025, compared to the sameperiod of the previous year.According to the monthly report of the agency in charge of the Secretariatof the Navy (Semar), between January and February, 1,491.2,000 TEUs weremobilized.
The increase was driven by deep-sea traffic, from which 80% of the totalregistered was transported, followed by transshipment with 17.5% and0.5% by cabotage.The venues that marked a greater participation in this type of movementwere those of the Pacific, led by the Port of Manzanillo and the Port ofLázaro Cárdenas.The port of Colima reported the movement of 642 thousand TEUs, whilethe Michoacán facility reached 405 thousand TEUs, both transporting justover 70% of the total.
These facilities were followed by the ports of Veracruz and Altamira, whichtransported 21% in the first two months of the year, located on the Gulf Caribbean coast.
The CGPMM report details that the ports of Veracruz and Altamiratransported 177,000 and 139,000 TEUs, respectively, and although theycontinued to be in the top four of the venues with the highestparticipation, they reflected falls of 16 and 4 percent.
